The original company was a major industry in Pawtucket RI. (Wire and cable manufacturing is still a vital part of the Pawtucket economy). During WWII, the US Government specifically funded Royal Electric Co., Inc. to produce spiral and tinsel cordage for the Signal Corps. It was a major presence, with a strong and innovative product line.

At some point, it was acquired by International Telephone and Telegraph, and was then known as ITT Royal Electric. The company was spun off as Royal Electric Inc., possibly in the late 1980’s. The company was wholly acquired by Triangle Wire and Cable, Inc., which continued to brand some products under its Royal Wire & Cable division. In 1997, The Essex Group, Inc. bought out “substantantially all the assets” of Triangle Wire and Cable, Inc.

Today, the name Royal Wire & Cable is still associated with a high quality product. Several of the copyrighted brand names, such as SDNä and SDT^â, still exist, but are owned by different companies. The catalogs showing the original specs are in short supply.
